Many years ago, maybe 20, we bought some chickens to share their eggs with our family and two local food pantries; Somerset County and Flemington Pantry. We keep the flock steady at 14 hens and think of the eggs as gifts, no more, no less. As happens with circulating gifts, this one acquired another gift, that of a bag of feed delivered monthly to our front door from our church; Grace United Church of Christ of Flemington. (The monthly delivery piece is huge!) This congregation led by Dan Lundquist lives into the spirit of gifts knowing that gift exchange - not transactional exchange- is at the heart and soul of the social and spiritual cohesion of a community.
We thank you as do the ladies.

Note from the website curator: You can help support the D’Aversa’s mission, too. They always welcome egg cartons, and can also use your empty egg shells, which they grind up to add to the chicken’s feed.
